This summary explains what donors can expect when contributing to APAF—and what donations do not provide.

Your Rights as a Donor

As a donor to APAF, you have the right to:

  • Mission transparency: Clear, general information about APAF’s mission, programs, and charitable activities.
  • Aggregate reporting: High-level, non-identifiable information about funds raised and how funds are used across programs.
  • Public disclosures: Access to APAF’s publicly available financial statements and IRS Form 990, as required by law.
  • Charitable acknowledgment: A written acknowledgment of your contribution for tax substantiation purposes.

Donor recognition, including public acknowledgment by name, is optional and provided solely at APAF’s discretion.

How Donations Are Used

All donations are controlled exclusively by APAF and used to advance our charitable mission.

  • Funds support APAF programs broadly and are not assigned to specific individuals.
  • If donations exceed the needs of a particular program, APAF may redirect excess or unallocated funds to other charitable purposes consistent with its mission.

Important Limitations

To protect patient choice, program integrity, and charitable independence:

  • Donations cannot be earmarked for specific patients.
  • Donations cannot be conditioned on:
    • The number of people assisted
    • Use of a specific hospital, provider, or healthcare system
    • Selection of a particular insurance plan or insurer
  • Donors do not participate in eligibility decisions or assistance amounts.
  • Donors do not receive patient-identifiable information or data that would allow tracking outcomes or utilization.

Tax Treatment

Donations to APAF are intended to be tax deductible as charitable contributions, provided the donor does not receive goods, services, or other benefits in exchange for the donation.

APAF does not provide tax advice. Donors are responsible for determining deductibility and reporting any benefits received, if applicable.

Irrevocability

Donations are irrevocable and non-refundable once accepted, except asrequired by law or to correct administrative errors.
