Crowdfunding

There is no better or more meaningful gift than a gift of health. Crowdfunding with APAF is a secure way to let your family and friends help you with your health journey.

By creating a campaign:

  • You may be eligible for seed funds to help launch your campaign.

  • You may qualify for matching funds to amplify your impact.

  • Donations go directly to medical providers—not to patients—ensuring funds are used exactly as intended.

Crowdfunding FAQs

How does crowdfunding work?
  1. American Patient Access Foundation invites eligible patients to create campaigns to crowdfund for medical bills.
  2. Patients and/or their care-givers start a campaign and are coached in how to set it up to effectively raise funds.
  3. Once the campaign is launched, the patient’s fundraising team promotes the campaign to family, friends, and others in their social networks using private social media (email, text, messaging apps), or via public social media (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, etc.) if they choose.
  4. Supporters see the campaign and make a contribution.
  5. The patient’s team is notified of the gift so that they can thank the contributor.
  6. Twice monthly, the funds raised are sent to the healthcare providers to pay patient bills.

Privacy is a top priority for APAF. We do not disclose any information to any third parties except those necessary to run our platform. Additionally, we don’t have access to medical information outside of what is included in a bill and what patients and their supporters choose to post to our crowd-financing platform.

All donations are remitted to American Patient Access Foundation. We then use those funds to pay the patient’s healthcare provider directly to cover bills. Funds are never sent to the patient, or their family members.

Absolutely! You and your provider can determine together what the best plan is for reaching your financing goals. It can be a combination of any form of payment or credit, in conjunction with crowdfunding through APAF.

Of course they can. We know that often people under care aren’t able to make their own campaigns. Once a patient creates a campaign, they can invite other people close to them to help out with running the campaign.

Excess funds raised in each campaign past the goal determined by a patient’s bill will be used by APAF to support other qualified patients in need.

You have no risk. Whatever amount is raised will go to the patient’s provider and be applied toward their bill. Even if it doesn’t cover it completely, the patient is that much closer to meeting their objectives.

Donations are tax deductible. You will receive a tax receipt via email.

There is no cost to patients, or donors. 100% of every donation goes to pay the patient’s medical bills.

Payments are sent twice monthly to healthcare providers to pay bills. Questions about your bill and it’s payment status can be directed to your healthcare provider.

For anything else, you can use our Contact Us page. Remember, American Patient Access Foundation staff won’t be able to help with campaign questions.
